To celebrate the arrival of spring and the launch of our project, we are delighted to announce a range of free local events to encourage us to connect, learn about and discover nature in our community. We hope you can join us.

Here is our current list. More information will become available soon. To register your attendance please follow the eventbrite link. Some events will have limited spaces.

Pavement Wildflower and chalk graffiti tour

Sunday 6th June at 4pm. Meet up at St Johns Church Yard

Join Tim Allman and others from the wild.NG team to take a walk across our streets to learn more about wildflowers growing along our pavements. We will be identifying them, and also labelling them with chalk too. Suitable for all ages and interests.

Swift Street Tour

Monday 21st June at 6pm, meet up at Carrington Pottery

Join INSTAR (Trish Evans and Nick Humphreys), Co-founders of Swift Street for a walk about tour to observe the aerobatic wonder and behaviour of swifts nesting in across our community. They will also introduce you to the breathtaking facts about this superhero bird and also about swift street as a project and offer advice about creating your own swift street.


City Tree Tour

Saturday 3rd July, starting at 10am at St Johns Church Carrington, followed by part 2 at 12noon at Woodthorpe Grange Park Cafe

This street tree tour, led by Alex Begg our City Tree Officer and member of wild.NG will cover the benefits of urban tree canopy, the challenges of growing trees in a city and what we as a community can do to help our urban trees.

Art in the Garden

Saturday 10th July all day drop in, Windmill Community Gardens

Join Michelle Reader, artist and member of wild.NG for innovative creative activities to create pollinator-inspired sculptural plant markers from found materials. Visitors will also get to see her spectacular wildlife-inspired sculptures made from waste alongside the art of many other artists as part of a creative day at Windmill Community Gardens. No need to book

Wild.NG Street Networking Event

Sunday 11th July 2pm, location to be confirmed

Join the wild.NG team for an innovative and informative event to inspire new ideas to create our wilder streets. We will host talks, offer advice and facilitate creative networking opportunities so we can collaborate, learn and champion new initiatives and ideas. If you are a registered wild.NG street this is the event for you! If you are not yet registered, but interested this is also the event for you!

Bat Detecting Walk and Talk

Thursday 9th September 7:30pm, Woodthorpe Grange

Join our bat experts and wild.NG advisors Michael Walker and Lorna Griffiths for an evening of fascinating bat detecting. They will be sharing their knowledge of our local bats, bat behaviour and bat ecology whilst you observe and detect our local bats. Suitable for all ages. Bat detectors will be provided. Information to book to be provided soon.

Bat box making

Saturday 11th September 2pm, location to be confirmed

Join our local carpenters to build your very own bat box. Materials will be provided, as well as advice on how and where to install your very own bat box. A suggested donation of £5 to cover the cost of materials is welcomed. Information to book to be provided soon
