Swift Street

Welcome to our Swift Street project page

We are passionate about our urban Nottingham Swifts. So much so that we believe they are the super hero of the bird world and we love that they arrive in our skies over our city each year, returning to breed in the place they call home. A place we call home.

Click on our facts below to find out about the super hero wonder of swifts. Prepare to be amazed.

Swifts need our help. They are in serious decline and are now registered as RED LISTED in the UK. Habitat loss and building development have both contributed significantly to the welfare of Swifts. We are therefore passionate about making a real difference where we live. Where swifts call home too.

61 boxes on residential streets and counting…

6 swift streets so far…

This year we are delighted to announce we have been installing our 6th Swift Street, thanks to support from Notts Birders for their donation, to our residents for inviting us to install boxes and our volunteer crew for installing our boxes which is demanding (but very rewarding) work!

This year we have so much going on. Updates and information will be added to this page regularly, so keep visiting. Additionally please also follow us on FaceBook.

THANK YOU

It is believed that by playing swift calls on a small bluetooth speaker - close to a swift box - will attract ‘takers’.

We have found that this has worked for us in Carrington, as each year we have observed more and more juvenile swifts ‘banging’ boxes, with their wings, to test their availability for future use! Last year we had our first breeding pairs and many more swifts checking out our boxes.
